Polar Bear Swim for SnowFest

It’s a cold day in Tahoe when each year the polar bears take to the water for a dip in a lovely, cold, cold, incredibly cold lake!  Ouch!  The polar bear swim is back!  On Saturday, March 5 at 2:30pm, grab your Wet Woody from Gar Woods Restaurant in Carnelian Bay at Lake Tahoe  and watch from the beach as men and women brave the winter waters of Lake Tahoe.

The event is held as a part of 30th annual SnowFest, which runs from March 4 to March 13, 2011 ( http://www.tahoesnowfestival.com/ ).  The Polar Bear swim is held at the beach at the Gar Woods Grill & Pier, 5000 N. Lake Blvd, Carnelian  Bay, California.

The participants compete in a swimming race in Lake Tahoe in water that is about 40 degrees.  They swim to a marker beyond the end of the pier and then back.  There are rescue watercraft waiting to assist if necessary.  When their race is finished there is a hot tub provided for the contestants.  Watching the event is good fun for all!
